2026 Summer Comedy & Communication Class for Kids

Build Confidence, Communication, and Coping Skills Through Comedy

What if your child could have fun this summer while building confidence, learning to communicate more effectively, and developing skills that help them thrive at school, at home, and with peers?

Our Summer Comedy & Communication Class is a unique, therapist-led program that uses age-appropriate stand-up comedy, storytelling, improv-style exercises, and performance games to help kids strengthen the skills that matter most in everyday life.

While comedy is part of the fun, the bigger goal is to help children become more confident, resilient, and connected communicators.

What Kids Will Learn

Through engaging activities and guided practice, kids will work on:

  • Listening skills – paying attention, taking in what others are saying, and responding thoughtfully

  • Communication skills – expressing ideas clearly, speaking with confidence, and finding their voice

  • Confidence in front of others – becoming more comfortable sharing, participating, and being seen

  • Coping with mistakes and embarrassment – learning that it’s okay to try, stumble, and keep going

  • Flexible thinking – thinking on their feet, handling the unexpected, and adapting in the moment

  • Emotional awareness and self-regulation – noticing feelings, managing nerves, and practicing healthy coping strategies

  • Social connection – reading the room, taking turns, and learning how humor can bring people together

  • Creativity and self-expression – turning everyday observations and ideas into stories, jokes, and conversation

Why Comedy?

  • Comedy gives kids a playful, low-pressure way to practice important life skills.

  • When children learn how to tell a story, respond to a prompt, think of a joke, or speak in front of a group, they are also practicing how to:

  • tolerate discomfort

  • recover from mistakes

  • manage performance anxiety

  • listen and respond in real time

  • communicate with more clarity and confidence

  • connect with others through creativity and shared laughter

  • For some kids, humor becomes a bridge: it makes social learning feel more natural, engaging, and fun.

Who This Class Is For

This class may be a great fit for children who:

  • are bright and funny but struggle with confidence

  • get nervous speaking in front of others

  • have a hard time knowing what to say in social situations

  • need support with listening, turn-taking, or conversational skills

  • are sensitive to mistakes or embarrassment

  • would benefit from practicing coping skills in a fun, encouraging environment

  • enjoy being creative, telling stories, or making others laugh

No comedy experience is needed. Kids do not need to be “performers” to benefit from this class.

What Makes This Class Different

This is not just a performance class, and it’s not just a traditional social-skills group.

As a mental health counselor and stand-up comedian, I created this class to combine the best of both worlds:

  • the fun, creativity, and confidence-building energy of comedy

  • with the emotional insight, structure, and skill-building of a therapist-led group

The result is a summer program designed to help kids grow in ways that extend far beyond the class itself.

Our Approach

The class is designed to be supportive, playful, and developmentally appropriate. Sessions may include:

  • warm-up games to build comfort and connection

  • listening and communication exercises

  • storytelling prompts and joke-writing activities

  • role play and improvisation to practice flexibility and quick thinking

  • coaching around nerves, frustration, and self-expression

  • opportunities to practice speaking in front of peers in a safe, encouraging setting

The goal is not to create perfect little comedians. The goal is to help kids build confidence, resilience, and communication skills they can carry into everyday life.
